2011 Touching Lives Campaign (TLC) Companies Care for Community
Each year, the Marshfield Area United Way selects several local businesses to participate in the Touching Lives Campaign (TLC). TLC is a recognition program for companies that embody the LIVE UNITED spirit, in the fall and throughout the entire year. The businesses that are selected have proven histories of organized, creative campaigns and this year was no exception.
The companies who participated in this year's Touching Lives Campaign include: Central City Credit Union, Personal Development Center, Heritage Bank, Opportunity Development Center, Weber's Farm Store, Hewitt's Meat Processing, and Festival Foods. Each company provided their own unique way to support their company's fundraising efforts toward this year's United Way campaign.
Food was common theme as breakfasts and various other meal activities were held at many of these businesses to raise money. Some of the businesses held fun activities including: duct taping employees to chairs, sponge and egg tosses, three-legged races and bat-spin races. Other TLC companies contributed by donating food for the United Way kick-off event and by donating a portion of their sales toward the 2011 campaign.
Central City Credit Union had a car wash event, a cookie-gram sale and Jeans Days to raise money. The Personal Development Center held its annual Breakfast of Champions at City Hall.
Heritage Bank sold duct tape to employees and customers and taped new bank President, Marty Reinhart to his chair. Clearly, the bank and its customers don't want him going anywhere! Heritage bank also held a windshield washing event, a bake sale, and had a Chinese raffle for the employees to bid on items such as: extended lunch hours, sleep in late days, leave early days, and paid time off, to raise money.
Opportunity Development Center(ODC) had a day full of fun events that raised money for their campaign. There was a sponge toss, egg toss, three-legged race and a bat-spin race. ODC also has an annual money-raising meal during their United Way campaign.
Weber's Farm Store held a caring cones event last August. Ten percent of every ice cream cone purchased was donated to United Way from August 8-13.
Hewitt's Meat Processing provided brats for this year's campaign kick-off that was held at the Wildwood Park Station. They also donated a percentage of all brat sales to United Way as well.
Festival Foods had employee Jeans Days and also a brat fry as fundraiser events for their campaign. Festival has also come up with something else quite unique for a fundraiser for United Way. Festival Foods and Associated Bank are sponsoring a 9-Pin Tap fundraiser to be held at Rose Bowl Lanes on December 18, 2011.
However these companies found ways to contribute, it is clear that their support and care for our community can motivate and inspire us all.

Real Stories from the Marshfield Area
|
After fleeing from an abusive relationship with just the clothes on my back, I felt lost and hopeless. I had nowhere to turn to and just when I thought things could not be any worse I was served with divorce papers and a court date. Unable to afford to hire an attorney, I appeared in court without any attorney representation. I was berated and belittled and left feeling like even less of a person.
Through the the Personal Development Center, a United Way partner program, I was connected with an attorney who took on my case without a retainer fee. My attorney helped empower me and gave me a voice in the court room. I was able to walk out of the next appointment with my head held high; knowing, I still have a long road ahead of me but will come through a stronger person due to the support system I have with the Personal Development Center.

"While we enjoy the benefits of living in the greatest democracy in the world, we must be ever conscious of the fact that none of the achievements or freedoms enjoyed in America would be possible without the price that has been paid for by our servicemen and women."
