2009 NALC Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Results

Marshfield area residents donated 20,453 pounds of non-perishable food items in the annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive to Stamp Out Hunger.

This food is distributed to Soup or Socks and St. Vincent DePaul to help friends, family and neighbors in need.  In the 17 years the Marshfield area has participated, residents have donated a total of 203,388 pounds of food.

Marshfield Area United Way, the Marshfield Area Volunteer Center and Marshfield Post Office would like to thank the letter carriers, their families and all the volunteers who helped sort and unload at the Marshfield Post Office and Soup or Socks. Thank you to everyone who donated food and Slumberland for use of a truck. Your hard work and generosity is appreciated.

“This year was a record breaking collection from our local residents in the current economy. Thank you to the NALC, AFL-CIO, rural carriers, United Way and all our volunteers,” said Marilyn Pulvermacher, drive coordinator for the Marshfield Post Office.

Nationwide collections have also reached a record total of 73.1 million pounds from more than 10,000 towns and cities in all 50 states and U.S. jurisdictions. This continues to be the nation’s largest one-day effort to combat hunger.
