Volunteer Recruitment and Placement:
Marshfield Area
Volunteer Center
Need: It's getting too hard for Margaret, age 75, to maintain her lawn in the fall. Her children live out of state and can't help rake the leaves from her two big oak trees.
Results: Margaret called a United Way program to have a volunteer come to her house on Make A Difference Day. Now she doesn't have to worry when fall comes around and she enjoys talking to the group of volunteers who come to rake.
Get involved: Call Sarah Krenn at 384-9992 to volunteer for one-time events and continuous activities throughout the year.

Friendly challenge yields sweet results

|

|
Drive Chair Kathy Rhyner, Community Bank President, of Associated Bank and Al Nystrom, Community Bank President of M&I Bank set a challenge to see which bank had the highest percent of employee participation.
It soon became clear that employees from both banks rose to the challenge with 100 percent participation.
They honored the challenge by serving pies to employees at both banks. The ultimate winner is the community. Each bank's employees can feel good about their friends, family and neighbors benefiting from their generosity.

Thank You Marshfield Clinic staff and
physicians!
Because of the generosity of the employees and the corporate contribution, Marshfield Clinic became the first workplace campaign in our community to reach $300,000 in giving. This total is 29 percent of our community campaign goal. |

| Real stories. Real people. Right here in the Marshfield area. |
Last week Soup Or Socks, United Way Partner Program, reported at a Vision Council the food pantry's shelves were almost bare. Seeing this urgent need, United Way staff and the Executive Committee took immediate action. Soup Or Socks was given a $5,000 Emergency Grant to supply the program with enough food to last through the end of 2007.
United Way was able to identify this need in our Vision Council that meets throughout the year. It's because of your contributions to last year's campaign that families in our area will still be able to receive food through this program.

| There are decorating 'Heroes Amoung Us' at Figi's, Inc. |
|
Figi's, Inc. employees broke out their creative sides for the department decorating contest. "Last year everyone did such a wonderful job, but after walking around to look at each department's decorating. I had rewrite my speech (for tomorrow's presentation)!"
This year departments were encouraged to follow the theme "Heroes Among Us" and incorporate United Way. After visiting all the locations, the Figi's United Way committee, which served as judges, had a hard time choosing winners.
Thank you Figi's, Inc. and all the employees who participated in this fun, creative event! It was such a pleasure for United Way staff and Drive Chairs to visit these amazing transformed spaces.

| Marshfield Furniture's Costume Contest a Halloween treat |
We were treated to a Halloween Costume Contest at Marshfield Furniture. What a sight to see: 23 employees from throughout the company put on their Halloween best and invited Drive Chair John Baur to judge the contest as a special event for their workplace campaign.
First place went to "a striking blond." Chris said his costume was a collection of items left by a former girlfriend. He said he'd like to have worn high heeled shoes, but couldn't find any with safety toes.
Second place went to Frosty the Snowman as portrayed by Carolyn. Hopefully Carolyn didn't melt before the day was over! (Left)

| Mid-State Technical College doubles its campaign with help of special events |
Mid-State Technical College ran a very successful campaign, almost doubling what they raised in 2006.
Mid-State created enthusiasm for the campaign by holding a different special event each week of October. They tempted faculty, staff and student stomachs with a Nacho Bar, Potato Bar, Chili Dump and Sundae/Banana Split Bar.
These events, coupled with other events like a Parking Space Raffle, Guessing Games and Basket Raffle, and other contributions created excitement and will go a long way to helping their friends, family and neighbors in the Marshfield area. | |
