Lives Improved

Paula Jero, Executive Director marks the first level of advancing the common good on our new sign by the Shoppes at Wood Ridge Mall entrance on Central Avenue.

Contributions to the United Way campaign total $115,263.  Money raised provides vital funding to local programs that help youth succeed in school, families work towards financial stability and support our most vulnerable residents.

If you haven't made your gift this year, contact your company's human services department, call 384-9992 or click here.

Everybody needs a little TLC ...TLC2

New to 2009, Marshfield Area United Way launched a recognition series to showcase extraordinary campaign efforts.

So, Touching Lives Campaigns (TLC) was created to highlight businesses that embody the LIVE UNITED spirit, in the fall and throughout the year.

The TLC Companies replace the Pacesetter effort of conducting early campaigns to "set the pace" for the overall fundraising effort.

2009 TLC Companies are:
Figi's, Inc.
Marshfield Clinic Departments: Charge Processing, Claims Processing, Customer Service, Credit Balance Department, FHC Dental, Outreach Labs, Patient Financial Service Administrations and Work Variance;
Memorial Medical Center
School District of Marshfield
Security Health Plan
Slumberland Furniture
United Way Partner Programs

Figi's Cookie Challenge-Poor Man's CookiesMore than just dollars and cents raised-it's the collective action of individuals, businesses and an entire community to unite together for a common cause, because everyone needs a little TLC.

LIVE UNITED and Pay It ForwardPIF

Kelly Guden, a local Girl Scout started the chain of kindness and asks that you join her.  Her Gold Award Project is to change the world, one act of kindness at a time ... encouraging her community to Pay It Forward.

It is as simple as raking someone's lawn, helping your neighbor, sticking up for a friend in need.

This year Figi's, Inc., a 2009 TLC Company, is holding Jeans Day, where employees pay for the opportunity to wear jeans at work.  One morning a person paid for his or her Jeans Day stickers for a month, and for the next person who came in for Jeans Day.  This kindness was Paid Forward three times, as the next three people did the same, even though they knew they were not required to pay.

"One smile can brighten someone's day; one word can improve their outlook; and one kind act can set off a chain of good acts that can change the world," Kelly states on her Web site.

So, the next time you have an opportunity to be kind, go out of your way to do some good, then ask them to Pay It Forward.  Visit Kelly's Web site to let her know how you're taking action, so she can chronicle it for her Gold Award Project.

Because when you reach out a hand to one, you influence the condition of all. Pay It Forward, Don't just wear the Shirt, LIVE it.

Real Stories. Real People.
Right Here in the Marshfield area.

Al and Donna and their three children are a typical family.  They had good jobs and above average incomes. Through the years they paid their bills, mortgage payments and other expenses the family needed, but had no real budget, planning or goals.

As unforeseen costs arose they used credit cards. Over time the totals increased so much that they were only able to make minimum payments on each card.

They were barely surviving until recently when Al's pay was reduced and Donna's hours were cut. They went from break even to short $550 every month.

That is when they sought help from Catholic Charities, a United Way funded program.

When they met with the counselor, they reviewed their new income level, monthly expenses, debts.  In creating a budget, they agreed to work together to find a way to increase cash flow through decreasing expenses.

They never thought they would be in a situation that they could have lost everything. But, your contribution made it possible for Al and Donna to receive help and recover.
