Home Delivered Meals

Mission Statement: The mission of Home Delivered Meals is to improve the health and well-being of homebound individuals in the Marshfield community through the delivery of hot, nutritious meals.

Brief Agency Overview: Hot meals are prepared daily at Saint Joseph's Hospital, and then picked up for delivery by volunteer drivers. Each volunteer delivers approximately 12-15 meals directly to the homes/apartments of the program participants. Volunteers make sure that each meal recipient is OK, and then they return all empty trays back to the hospital.

Meal recipients receive a hot meal each day, and they may also receive a cold bag lunch for the evening meal if they wish. Both meals are delivered at the same time.

We are presently serving meals to about 120 individuals daily. We need the help of 9 volunteer drivers daily to accomplish this service. In 2009, we served approximately 38,000 meals, with the help of over 200 volunteer drivers.

Hours of Operation: Meals are delivered every day of the week, including holidays (365 days/year). Our office is staffed Monday thru Friday 8:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M. An answering machine is available to leave messages outside of office hours.

Contact Person: Jackie Zoellner, Home Delivered Meals Coordinator. Other staff in the Food & Nutrition Department of Saint Joseph's Hospital can answer questions about the program.

List of programs, descriptions, eligibility requirements and costs of each: Our primary service is the delivery of meals to homebound individuals in the city of Marshfield. Any adult resident of Wood County who lives within or near the city limits of Marshfield and meets the following criteria is eligible to receive Home Delivered meals:

  • Unable to prepare his/her own meals because of illness, infirmity, disability, or handicap.
  • Unable to do his/her own shopping.
  • Has no one else too perform these duties for them.

Meals recipients are asked to pay $4.00 per hot meal, and $2.50 per bag lunch. Program participants are billed at the end of the month. If finances are limited, United Way scholarships are available. Program participants are not turned away because of inability to pay.

Volunteer Opportunities: Additional volunteer drivers are always needed. Monday thru Friday, drivers are needed for deliveries at 10:45 A.M. Total time involved is about an hour. drivers are also needed during the week for our 4:30 P.M. routes. On Saturdays and Sundays, drivers are needed at 10:45 A.M. for meal deliveries. Again, total time involved is about an hour. Volunteer drivers donate their vehicle and their time. Training is provided for all volunteers.
