Literacy Council

Mission Statement: Literacy Council of Wood County helps adults improve their quality of life by enhancing their English skills.

Brief Agency Overview: Literacy Council has been providing tutoring and instruction to adults in Wood County since 1991. Instruction is individualized to meet the specific needs of each learner, and is completely confidential. Tutors are volunteers who meet with a learner twice a week for about an hour each time.

Hours of Operation:

Marshfield: Mondays and Wednesdays 8:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.

Wisconsin Rapids: Tues and Thur: 8:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.

List of programs, descriptions, eligibility requirements and costs of each:

Individual tutoring in reading, math, or English as a Second Language. Volunteer tutors meet with learners twice a week to work on materials and skills determined by the learner. Tutoring is available for all levels of reading, math, or English skills, and is completely confidential. Tutoring is available to adults. There is no charge.

Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to tutor learners in reading, math, or English as a Second Language. Training is available so there is no educational requirement.
