Boy Scouts of America -- Samoset Council

Mission Statement: It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and in other ways prepare them to make ethical choices over their lifetime to achieve their full potential.

Brief Agency Overview: Since its founding in 1920 the mission of the Samoset Council has been to provide the necessary support services to ensure the success of the districts and the Scout units they support. These services include, but are not limited to annual growth, successful fundraising, quality program, property utilization, staff development, and recruiting quality volunteer leadership at every level of the organization.

Activities for youth include scouting for boys 7-18 years old, and explorer programs for boys and girls 14-18 years old. There are also programs for youth with disabilities. Activities are directed toward character building, physical fitness, citizenship, and leadership training. The agency hosts both day and resident camping experiences at Camp Phillips, Camp Tesomas, Akela's World Cub Scout Camp, and Hanna Venture Base.

The service area covers 13 counties in northern and Central Wisconsin. Major sources of funding are 10 local United Ways including Marshfield Area United Way, as well as friends of scouting campaigns and popcorn sales.

A Hmong interpreter is available. Information is available to be read one-on-one with the clients and is available through spoken word recordings. An American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter is available. Information is also available in Braille and large print.

The Council will be successful in its efforts when a high percentage of the units within the Council achieve Quality Unit status and the mission statement of the Boy Scouts of America is a reality in the lives of those we serve.
